This Saturday, Aug 31st, Gnarly is honored to be headed down to Prescott Arizona to take place in a very special memorial WOD for the 19 fallen firefighters of the Granite Mountain Hotshots firefighting team. The WOD will be held at Prescott’s Captain CrossFit and is expected to draw quite a crowd.
The Yarnell Hill Fire where the 19 Hotshots lost their lives was ignited by lightning on June 28th and burned over 8,400 acres before finally being fully contained on July 10th. On June 30th, 19 firefighters from the Granite Mountain Hotshots were overrun and killed by the fire. The National Fire Protection Association reported the Yarnell Hill fire was the greatest loss of life for firefighters in a wildfire since 1933 and the deadliest wildfire of any kind since 1991. It’s also the greatest loss of firefighters in the US since the September 11th attacks.
All the funds generated from this weekend’s WOD go directly to support the families of the fallen firefighters. Gnarly is excited to be a part of such an amazing and heartwarming event. We’re going to have some athletes there competing as well as our booth serving up protein shakes with all the funds we generate going to the Hotshots as well. Please come by and support an unbelievably worthy cause. You can also check out the link above to donate directly to the cause from the website.
